How psychodynamic therapy works

Psychodynamic therapy goes beneath the symptoms to the patterns that drive them.

What it is

Much of what shapes how we feel and act sits outside our awareness. Old experiences and ways of protecting ourselves can keep repeating long after they stop being useful.

In therapy we pay attention to these patterns as they show up in your life and in the room between us. Understanding them, not just managing them, is what makes lasting change possible.

What to expect. We begin with a free initial consultation to talk about what’s brought you, what you hope for and whether working together feels right. There’s no obligation to continue.

Sessions last 50 minutes and take place at the same time each week. A regular time gives the work the consistency it needs. Some people come for a focused piece of work; others stay longer to understand themselves in depth. We’ll think together about what suits you, and review it as we go.

In person or online. I see clients in a private consulting room at 1 Quality Court, a short walk from Chancery Lane station and minutes from the City and Holborn. I also work online, with early-morning, lunchtime and evening appointments so therapy can fit around a working day.
